Alison Holmes

Oldham,  Lancs

I am a pet portrait artist and work in chalk pastels. I am both a fine and detailed contemporary artist. I am passionate about horses, dogs and all animals and I love to paint them. I like to capture the individual character of every animal and transform someone's adored pet into a unqiue and stunning portrait. I also work on more contemporary large canvas pieces. I work with a product called liquid glass and like to experiment with mixed media. I like to create movement and texture in all my work and all my paintings are original and one off paintings. I can work on commission and bespoke terms with any theme or colour scheme.

I am a self taught artist from the North West of England. I sold many commissioned water colours when I was younger. I ceased to paint for many years as life took me in different directions. In the summer of 2012 my horse, Cree, became seriously ill. I painted her portrait and at that very difficult time I found it very therauputic.

I then went on to paint some of my friends horses and dogs and before long I was painting on commissioned terms. I like to work on the portraits with chalk pastels as I can get a smooth yet detailed finish. I love how I can both blend colours and produce fine and tight detail.

Later in 2012 I was introduced to a product called liquid glass and began painting in a much larger and looser style with acrylics which later developed into my liquid glass work. I am constantly developing this work and using new media's and style and I love the scope it offers me.
