Corrina Rothwell

Artist Website:

Nottingham,  Notts.

Corrina is a Rochdale-born illustrator living in Nottingham where she spends her time chasing cats, talking to pigeons, silently fuming about misplaced apostrophes and trying not to eat too much cheese. She also makes pictures about all of these things (and much more) and applies them to cards, prints and postcards.

Being brought up by artist parents, I could either have followed in their footsteps or done something perverse like become an accountant. Given that I'm terrible at maths, it's fortunate that I chose the former. I never did get round to going to art school though, so I am self-taught. I'm massively influenced by darkly humourous and writer/artists Edward Lear, Edward Gorey, Ivor Cutler and Glenn Baxter.

What I would like to happen is that people have a really good laugh when they look at my work. My idiosyncratic sense of humour and acute observational skills make for designs in which people can recognise themselves and their lives. As one customer very kindly wrote in an online review - 'Corrina Rothwell's humour is spot on!'
