The Forget-me-not Chorus is a South Wales charity which provides weekly singing sessions for people living with and alongside dementia. Participation in the choir stimulates both body and mind as our choristers are encouraged and empowered to have a voice and to express themselves through the joy of familiar songs.

The Forget-me-not Chorus is so much more than just a choir. It’s a safe, supportive, normalising place to make friends and join together in a joyful, positive experience. It’s a place where people are absolutely accepted and can discuss difficult challenges and troubles. It’s a place to give a powerfully creative voice to the experience of living with dementia, so that others might learn and understand.

The Forget-me-Not Chorus is testament to the potential of song, music and shared creativity to enrich and enhance people’s lives. Working alongside professional writers, musicians, artists and photographers, our choristers create bespoke artistic work that is then shared with family, friends and the wider public as a performance or exhibition. Through this process, the charity creates an escape from the everyday caring routine, providing a focus for the week, enabling partners and families to take part in a shared activity with their loved one, and essentially, celebrating life in the moment.

What the choir have to say:
“The highlight of the week”
“Two hours of joy”
“More, more please! I feel I am living again!”

We currently have 3 choirs in the community, in South Cardiff & Vale, North Cardiff and Newport plus choirs in two Cardiff care homes at Penylan House and Nazareth House. We reach over 180 people with dementia and their families every week.

It costs around £12 per chorister, per week for us to run the Forget-me-not Chorus and its projects. Without charitable donations from the public, trusts and foundations, we would not be able to continue and grow our service to families across South Wales, and help bring the joy of song into the lives of just a tiny fraction of the 45,000 people with dementia in Wales.
